Isaiah Boodhoo

Born in Sangre Grande, Trinidad, 1932, Isaiah James Boodhoo attended Brighton College of Art, then Central Washington University and Indiana University where he received formal training and was introduced to abstract expressionism. He employed painting as a means of commenting on the socio-political environment, as seen in his first exhibition at the National Gallery in Port of Spain in 1970. The Vietnam war, the sugar industry as well as Derek Walcott’s poetry have served as influences during his career. Symbols of Hinduism have also emerged in his later paintings. Boodhoo was a member of Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago and was a multidisciplinary creative. His novel Between Two Seasons was published in 1994. The Isaiah Boodhoo Collection which includes a manuscript for the novel, is held at the Alma Jordan Library, Special Collections, The University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago.
