Ken Crichlow

Kenywyn Crichlow is a practicing artist who has participated in solo exhibitions in Trinidad and Tobago and internationally from 1981 to present. Mr. Crichlow has taught at every level of the Education system in Trinidad and Tobago; primary and secondary schools, Teachers College and at the University of the West Indies. Kenwyn is also a key researcher on the history of visual arts in the Caribbean.
His paintings explore narratives of our culture and identity through vibrant, colourful compositions.

They seek to capture the full range of our experiences, and open us to the images that reside deep in the heart.

Artist Statement

Colour can soothe, energise and inspire, its power originating in primal forces that drive every painterly means at my disposal for creating a space in which marks and blobs, harmonies and contrasts, methods of layering and composing aspire to enter the public discourse of place, time, and the business of Art.
SOLACE is a collection of visual lyrics, offered for a consideration of their necessity, imagination, and beauty, premised on the idea that freedom from fear is not a given.
In the dire circumstance and relentless death march of the pandemic, SOLACE is concerned with optimism, continuity, and the renewal of confidence in the purposes of the community.
It aspires to lighten the obscuring darkness, distress, and gothic conspiracies of the moment and claim space for Art and inspiration.
Indeed, SOLACE also asks, what is the artist’s business, if not to do work that brings light and pull at your heartstrings while strengthening valued cultural connections, especially during times of personal and collective despondency.
